Orthopedic Clinical Residency

- Program emphasis on differential diagnosis and clinical reasoning. Knowing the clinical prediction rules is just one small piece of clinical proficiency and does not assist the clinician in the assessment and treatment of a vast majority of patients.
- Develop anatomical, biomechanical and systematic based assessment strategies.
- Sound scientific principles for treating the variety of musculoskeletal tissues involved in orthopedic pain complaints allow the resident to develop a logically based treatment program.
- Proficiency in manual therapy techniques allows the resident to be a “hands-on“ practitioner.
- Well-rounded curriculum includes advanced training in post surgical management, radiology, pharmacology and current best evidence for orthopedic physical therapy practice.
- Sit the OSC exam after program completion and use your coursework towards future manual therapy certification or a DSc degree program.
Clinical Supervision: 150 1:1 Supervision hours
Length: 18-24 months
Location: You can do it in your own clinic! If you have access to the required orthopedic caseload we will work with you to find a Clinical Residency Instructor (CRI). Often a PT at your clinic will qualify. We can also work to connect you to a contracted site.

Applications for the program are accepted year-round, however there is only one entry point - all students will begin their course of study in September of each year and complete the didactic curriculum in sequence.
NAIOMT/Andrews University Orthopedic Residency Program is accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association as a postprofessional residency program for physical therapists in orthopedic physical therapy.
Applications
The NAIOMT/Andrews University Orthopedic Residency Program participates in the Residency/Fellowship Physical Therapy Centralized Application Service (RF-PTCAS). All applicants will need to apply through this system. We have a rolling admissions so applications can be submitted at any time during the year. The current start times for the programs are in January, July, or September. Instructions for submitting the RF-PTCAS application are available on the RF-PTCAS website.
